Guide to Mijas

Mijas is one of the largest municipalities in Spain. The municipality stretches from the mountains of Mijas to the sea with an undulating landscape of hills and mountains. The mountain "Pico de Mijas" above Mijas Pueblo is 1150 meters high.

Mijas Pueblo is probably one of the most beautiful Andalucian villages and, despite its international influence, has retained its character. An excursion to Mijas Pueblo or a residence here offers fantastic experiences. Mijas Pueblo is 430 meters above sea level just a few kilometers from Fuengirola. The view is breathtaking and in clear weather you can see across to Africa. In Mijas Pueblo there is a large selection of restaurants and a lively craft and art environment. Once a week you can enjoy a Flamenco show in the square.

Between Mijas Pueblo and Mijas Costa the countryside spreads out, this part is called Mijas Campo (Campo means countryside). Here there are more villas and those looking for an undisturbed environment will find this here but are still close to Fuengirola. Most of the properties in Campo Mijas also offer a fantastic view as they are located on a hill

Mijas Guide

The municipality has 12 km of coastline which stretches along beautiful resorts such as Calahonda, El Faro, Riviera del Sol and La Cala de Mijas. La Cala is the center of Mijas Costa, i.e. the part of the municipality located by the sea. Mijas Costa is located south and west of Fuengirola and consists of two main resorts, La Cala Mijas and Calahonda.

La Cala is a cozy fishing village with an international feel and fantastic beach promenade that still extends to Calahonda, which is the town closest to the municipality of Marbella. La Cala has a fantastic beach that has the EU blue flag for good bathing water. The village is right by the sea but still very central. When you turn off the coast road, loads of facilities open up. La Cala is close to four golf courses. La Noria Golf, El Chaparral, Calanova and La Cala Golf. They have also built a new racetrack called the Hippodromo de Costa del Sol very close by.

Calahonda, south of La Cala is clustered and they share a promenade. There it is a calm pace and cozy atmosphere. However, Calahonda offers everything you could need within easy reach. For those who do not want to drive, there is a small train and good connections in all directions by bus. Calahonda has its own port, Cabopino Puerto, which is a real donut place on the Sunshine Coast. In this beautiful harbor there are a number of good restaurants and bars, a sunset dinner in the lovely setting is highly recommended.
